E-Learning vs Traditional Learning Systems

The following article has been inspired by the thoughts of Mr. Mayank Srivastava. He is the Founder of Experts’ Global, one of the world’s leading EdTech firms in the field of GMAT prep and MBA admission consulting.

The traditional, brick and mortar, learning institute is in no danger of obsolescence. Experiential learning, communication/ interpersonal skills, community set up, and many other values can only be imparted in a physical setup. There is also, of course, the recognition that comes from physically attending a noteworthy institute. In other areas, however, e-learning options have a number of significant advantages. In contexts where the emphasis is on developing specialized skills, such as learning a programming language, e-learning can prove to be the superior option. These are still early days, but it might not be long before e-learning solutions match and even overtake the traditional methods. Here are some of the reasons why.

They allow for self-paced learning

As each student is different, so is the speed at which they absorb subjects. On an e-learning platform, the student does not have to worry about matching the pace of their peers or the educator. No classroom can offer the ability to work entirely at one’s own pace. Well developed e-learning platforms can even help students by suggesting additional conceptual and practice material for them to consult.

They are very efficient

E-learning options allow the students to save effort on physically attending an institute. They do not have to waste time in commuting or even getting ready for a class. They can study from wherever they feel most comfortable and whenever is best for them. The time saved on navigating traffic and getting ready for classes can be put to better use, building concepts and practicing.

They have great flexibility

Traditional learning systems work on fixed timings and duration, for the learning sessions. E-learning solutions, however, let the students study whenever they want. The student can study at any time during the day, or even at night. The ability to set their own schedule, as per one’s prior commitments, is something that all students appreciate but is especially invaluable for those who work full time.

They are economical

In traditional learning platforms, educators must invest the same amount of effort into each single learning session. E-learning platforms, however, only require significant investment in the early stages. Once the educational literature and technology piece have been developed, very little fresh investment must be put into an individual learning session.

They have great scalability

E-learning systems are quite scalable as, through the internet, they let the educators take their knowledge to a worldwide audience. The heart of any learning system is the potential and caliber of its educators. High potential educators are finding themselves quite attracted by the scalability that e-learning platforms provide.

They Have the Potential to Utilize Artificial Intelligence

E-learning solutions have the capacity to deploy machine learning algorithms, which will identify patterns in user behavior and personalize learning solutions that will best suit their needs. This concept is still being developed but it will not be long before we see a vast improvement in the artificial intelligence being used in e-learning platforms.
